Timothy John Harding was born in Gosford, New South Wales to Chris and Linda Harding and was raised in Sydney alongside two younger brothers named Peter (P.J.) and James. Harding attended St. Andrews Cathedral School. In 1993, he began a funk band Compos Mentis with his brother Peter, family friend Mike McCarthy, and bass player Sam O'Donnell.
